It’s one of the most famous blue wedding dresses in the world even it’s usually seen in black and white. It’s about as well known as a royal wedding gown gets even though it was worn to a ceremony that took place behind closed doors and which was recorded for posterity in a brief photo session in the hot French sun later on. Yet the dress worn by Wallis Warfield Simpson at her wedding to Edward, Duke of Windsor has a place in royal history all of its own. The PICCALINA lace kimono in tulle and Chantilly lace is something I’ve been wanting to design and create for quite awhile. I was inspired by old movies of women in delicate robes and/or dressing gowns, who of course sported long trains. While this started out in the style of a dressing gown the addition of the dramatic, flowing sleeves falling into points gives it that kimono quality. The under dress is a crepe sheath but a slip dress under this gemmie would work beautifully as well.

I used to be under the impression that large wedding dresses had gone the way of the dinosaur and that slim silhouettes would be reigning supreme for the foreseeable future. This might be the case for most people, but it certainly isn’t the norm in all subcultures, especially gypsies, or travelers, as has been revealed on the UK documentary Big Fat Gypsy Weddings, which made its debut in February 2010. The only man on the list of the most influential wedding gown designers, Oscar de la Renta originally hails from the Dominican Republic. Born in 1932, Oscar de la Renta’s fan base includes many of the same celebrities and wealthy clientele as Carolina Herrera’s label. Like Herrera, the bridal collection is a part of a larger lifestyle collection encompassing formal attire, day wear, and accessories. An art lover, Oscar de la Renta moved to Spain to study painting at the age of 18. It was not long before he changed his focus to fashion, obtaining an apprenticeship with the legendary Spanish couturier Balenciaga (it is an interesting coincidence that Balenciaga was Herrera’s first couture show; perhaps it is no accident that de la Renta and Herrera share some similar design aesthetics). De la Renta’s next step was a move to Paris, where he worked for Lanvin, Elizabeth Arden, and Dior before finally starting his own label in 1965. The Bara Luxe collection offers full figure and plus size couture bridal gowns and dresses, elegant, romantic, glamorous and sophisticated. Show off those curves with a body-hugging mermaid, trumpet, or sheath silhouettes with their fit and flare shapes that flatter your curves in all the right places. Looking forward to attending a Cambodian wedding next weekend. Wish you both all the best for your life together.

So here is the gem I discovered for us gals with skinny legs and the value of ordering one pair of custom tailored boots. About 2 years ago, out of desperation, I ordered a pair of classic black boots with clean lines from Duo to deliver to Canada. Great service; great product; pricey but under 450. Canadian with delivery, import fees, etc. This was a splurge and not something I can do every time I want a pair of boots. Bravo and Bravo. Living a major portion of my life as a refugee I have been watching different cultures, I found out that Afghan culture is quite different and enriched. It has familiarity with Eastern and Western cultures but retains its own special identity which unfortunately is not known much. I decided to write about the wedding traditions which is a symbolic celebration of every culture. The painting of a scene from a 1728 performance of The Beggar’s Opera shows Polly Peachum (as portrayed by Lavinia Fenton), whose status as Macheath’s new wife is central to her role, dressed in a white gown. The rattan sewing table in front of the window, by the bed, was purchased at an antique store. It makes a great night stand for the hubby as it has a compartment underneath to keep magazines or books. On top she has placed an antique alarm clock and bowl of rose potpourri. Come join us this Saturday, January 25 from 10-5. But don’t wait, these dresses go quick! Lace was used to decorate the front part of the gown whereas for the sleeves chiffon, silk and lace were commonly used. Virginity for first marriages is still prized in Armenian-American culture – for both brides and grooms – although it is not strictly expected. This belief holds true even 100 years after the Armenian Genocide in newer generations. You can help the HubPages community highlight top quality content by ranking this answer up or down. Then it is time for the reception. Wedding receptions in Germany are all-night parties, just as they are in much of Europe. The party begins with the German version of the cocktail hour, during which cakes, coffee, and tortes are served. During this time, the newlyweds will have their pictures taken by the photographer. Next comes the first dance (the hochzeitstanz, or wedding dance) for the newlyweds, which is traditionally a waltz. Then the bride will dance with her father and the groom will dance with his mother. After some more dancing, the party will have their formal dinner. One traditional dish is the hochzeitssuppe, or wedding soup, which is made of beef, dumplings, and vegetables. Of course, the beer and wine flow freely all night long!

Wedding cakes in the early 1900s began to be made of white cake, and white frosting. As a rule they were a one large layer cake, that would be decorated with real flowers. This was a big change from the typical wedding cakes of the 1800s, which were made of currant and nuts. Somewhat like our Christmas fruit cake of today, with a sugar glaze added. Our class was upper intermediate level, and there were about fifteen of us. Dressed up in our performance finery we swirled out onto the dance floor to surround the bride, who had on her white performance costume and the bridegroom seated before her. The Bride has a dress and color that some would find untraditional, but it is in complete harmony with her chosen theme of an Arabian Nights Fantasy. It is also written that Empress Eugenie’s dress, was so admired by all that in fact the loom industry, saw a large boost in production and sales. Demanding French brides wanted to wear the seven-boned, hoop-slip under their dress as she had. It can be said that Empress Eugenie’s dress revolutionized the wedding dress industry. Some have even gone so far as to speculate that Empress Eugenie’s gown, was the sole inspiration of savoy business tactics on the behalf of her groom. Now whether or not, Empress Eugenie’s wedding dress was indeed, a secret business strategy of Napoleon III’s, no one knows for certain. However, it was under this time frame that the French textile industry invented the Jacquard loom. The first ever mass-produced, hoop-slip. Up until that time looms were made to order, and handmade by talented seamstresses. Again, whether only speculation or not, there is a wide belief (to be fact) that Napoleon III did indeed ordered- Empress Eugenie to wear the all white bridal gown , which was designed by prominent Parisian designer Charles Frederick Worth The sole inspiration and creator of House of Worth dressmakers circa 1858-1956. Whether you got married 3 weeks ago or 30 years ago, you may very well still have your dress sitting in a closet somewhere. This is one of those things that tends to get carried from house to house. Some of us have a lot of emotional attachment to the dress. This was due in large part to the method which was used in the creation of fine Belgian lace: each worker was responsible for a specific portion of a larger whole. This meant that no one person was skilled in creating the entire finished piece, which made the secrets of Belgian lace much harder to spread to other regions. Today, Belgium is one of the few places in the world known for its fine lace.
