Google now lets you edit your business listings directly in Search

Google Search is pretty much the first place most people head when trying to discover information on a specific company, which is why the company holds a great deal of sway over how a business reaches its target market.

With that in mind, the internet giant is today rolling out a new dashboard that lets business owners edit and add information directly from within Google Search.

As usual, business owners can “add” or “claim” their business via the free Google My Business service, through which they can later add and update contact information, opening hours, photos, and more. Now, Google is making it slightly easier to make edits to a business profile — find the specific listing through Google Search by entering the keywords, and you’ll be presented with a list of update options in a horizontal panel.

You will need to be logged-in with your business account for this new dashboard to show up.

For business owners, this means there is less friction in terms of updating their details — perhaps they’ve changed their opening hours and forgot to update this in Google, or maybe they have a fancy new DSLR camera to include some high-resolution photos. Every time they search for their own company on Google, they’ll see the little dashboard inviting them to make some changes.

For Google, well, it wants to be seen as a reliable go-to place for all things “search,” be in in a search engine or Google Maps, so it is very much in its interests to have full and accurate information online for as many business as possible.

In addition to allowing business owners to keep their information up-to-date, the dashboard also displays how many profile views the listing has had, and whether there are new photos or reviews to check out.
