MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Memphis Police need your help tracking down an accused thief who held a husband and wife at gunpoint and robbed them inside a Cordova Subway restaurant.
The masked robber was caught on surveillance video walking into the store. His face was covered with a white camo mask.
Peter Patel, with Subway, saw him firsthand.
“Jacket, mask and a gun,” he said.
The suspect demanded money. Customers said it’s the last thing they expected to see Monday night.
Patel and another employee immediately reacted, running to the back of the kitchen.
According to a police report, when the suspect came into the restaurant he initially approached the cash register. When the cashier took off, the suspect then pulled his gun on a couple inside the restaurant, demanding money. The husband gave him $30 and the suspect left.
“It’s sad around the holidays we have to deal with stuff like this,” said Laila Ali.
Ali has owned the Subway location, for years.
“We have a lot of regular customers and we really appreciate the neighborhood and our customers here,” she said.
Those who work nearby said the robbery is a lesson to be aware no matter where you are.
“It’s made me think and I’ll be much more careful in the future.”
Part of being careful for this Subway includes having security cameras. Hopefully they’ll help catch a crook, but they’re also important for everyone’s safety.
“It’s very important. We encourage all businesses to make sure they do that,” she said.
