Living a major portion of my life as a refugee I have been watching different cultures, I found out that Afghan culture is quite different and enriched. It has familiarity with Eastern and Western cultures but retains its own special identity which unfortunately is not known much. I decided to write about the wedding traditions which is a symbolic celebration of every culture. The painting of a scene from a 1728 performance of The Beggar’s Opera shows Polly Peachum (as portrayed by Lavinia Fenton), whose status as Macheath’s new wife is central to her role, dressed in a white gown. The rattan sewing table in front of the window, by the bed, was purchased at an antique store. It makes a great night stand for the hubby as it has a compartment underneath to keep magazines or books. On top she has placed an antique alarm clock and bowl of rose potpourri. Come join us this Saturday, January 25 from 10-5. But don’t wait, these dresses go quick! Lace was used to decorate the front part of the gown whereas for the sleeves chiffon, silk and lace were commonly used. The couple is required in most churches to attend pre-wedding counseling administered by the church. Virginity for first marriages is still prized in Armenian-American culture – for both brides and grooms – although it is not strictly expected. This belief holds true even 100 years after the Armenian Genocide in newer generations. You can help the HubPages community highlight top quality content by ranking this answer up or down. Then it is time for the reception. Wedding receptions in Germany are all-night parties, just as they are in much of Europe. The party begins with the German version of the cocktail hour, during which cakes, coffee, and tortes are served. During this time, the newlyweds will have their pictures taken by the photographer. Next comes the first dance (the hochzeitstanz, or wedding dance) for the newlyweds, which is traditionally a waltz. Then the bride will dance with her father and the groom will dance with his mother. After some more dancing, the party will have their formal dinner. One traditional dish is the hochzeitssuppe, or wedding soup, which is made of beef, dumplings, and vegetables. Of course, the beer and wine flow freely all night long!
Wedding cakes in the early 1900s began to be made of white cake, and white frosting. As a rule they were a one large layer cake, that would be decorated with real flowers. This was a big change from the typical wedding cakes of the 1800s, which were made of currant and nuts. Somewhat like our Christmas fruit cake of today, with a sugar glaze added. Our class was upper intermediate level, and there were about fifteen of us. Dressed up in our performance finery we swirled out onto the dance floor to surround the bride, who had on her white performance costume and the bridegroom seated before her. The bride performed a special dance for her groom, and then the faster music began and the entire troupe presented their choreographed dance, ending with improvisations and dancing out into the seated crowd. A few brave souls joined us, and the performance ended with the usual band playing for the reception, and the wedding dining and dancing. For a lovely Irish tradition, you might want to choose some lavender to mix in with the floral table arrangements or the bridal bouquets. English lavender, is an ancient Irish symbol of love, loyalty, devotion and even luck to many an Irish bride. During the Middle Ages, English Lavender was often mixed with the bride’s wedding flowers to help insure a happy and long-lasting union. Large church weddings (hochzeit means wedding) commonly follow the small civil ceremonies required by German law. They are in many ways similar to American church weddings, but with some clear distinctions. One main difference is that the bride and groom process up the aisle together. They are already officially married at this point of course, so it would not make much sense for the bride’s father to give her away” to the groom, as is customary in American weddings. Additionally, there are no bridesmaids or groomsmen processing down the aisle in a German ceremony. Some couples may opt to have a flower girl, who will wear a pretty dress and a wreath of flowers. The religious ceremony will often last as long as an hour and a half, and includes sermons, singing, and a Nuptial Mass if the couple is Catholic.

Layers can be used just above the waist or in a curve going down from the waist to the hip, without hiding your assets. Good informational article. The whole pupose of course is not the details but the marriage of two souls that’s suppose to last as long as both of them lives. Children need parents of whatever faith and there were more commitments such as the ones the Catholic Church tries to make, there would be less confused children today.
The most important issues that you need to discuss with a caterer has to do with the style of the reception you want to have, and your budget. Talking with your potential caterer about the options, pricing, and other issues that might be of concern is the best way to avoid over spending, and other communication problems that could arise. If it’s your second wedding (or third or fourth or you are competing with Zsa Zsa Gabor) you can wear anything you want, except for a blusher veil. A blusher veil is that thing that covers your face. Unlike many other cultures Afghan society holds the male responsible for all the expenses of the wedding. Starting from the proposal and engagement, Hena night, wedding night and Takhtjami all the occasions are celebrated and organized by the groom and his family. Use colorful detail: Moroccan tea glasses, a brightly colored theme for tables and streamers, filigree lanterns. Thank you! I am also of the scrawny calved variety and all boots look like rubber gum boots on me. It’s summer here in Oz, but come winter I’ll be back to look at this page again!
Shoes and stockings became the focus of more attention as fashion items once their visibility increased due to raised hemlines on dresses. The color and designs of footwear and hosiery (stockings) assumed greater importance as part of co-ordinated outfits, which led designers and manufacturers to introduce new and varied colors, styles, materials, and patterns. Silk and Lisle stockings in trendy pastel shades were all the rage with women of all ages. katiem2, dear adict and wendy: Thanks for your input, it is nice to see that fifties style wedding dresses have a wide appeal.
